Removing the Shortcut arrow from Desktop Icons:

Goto Start then Run and Enter regedit or regedt32 . Both opens Registry Editor
Navigate to [HKEY_CLASSES_ ROOTlnkfile].
Delete the "IsShortcut" registry value.

Note: You may need to restart Windows XP.
